The area of uXNUMXbuXNUMXbdistribution of gleophillum fir is wide, but it is rare. In Our Country, it grows in all regions, around the globe – in the temperate zone and in the subtropics. Prefers to settle on conifers – fir, spruce, cypress, juniper, pine (usually grows on dead or dying wood). It is also found on deciduous trees – oak, birch, beech, poplar, but much less often.

Gleophyllum fir causes brown rot, which develops very quickly and covers the entire tree. This fungus can also settle on treated wood.

Fruiting bodies are represented by caps. The mushroom is a perennial, winters well.

Hats – prostrate, sessile, very often fused with each other. They are widely attached to the substrate, forming fan-like formations. Cap sizes – up to 6-8 cm in diameter, width – up to 1 cm.

In young mushrooms, the surface is slightly velvety, resembling felt, in adulthood it is almost naked, with small grooves. The color is different: from amber, light brown to dark brown, brown and even black.

The hymenophore of the fungus is lamellar, while the plates are rare, with bridges, wavy. Often torn. Color – light, whitish, then – brown, with a specific coating.

The pulp is fibrous, having a reddish-brown color. It is denser at the edge, and the cap adjacent to the upper side is loose.

Spores can be different in shape – ellipsoid, cylindrical, smooth.

Gleophyllum fir is an inedible mushroom.

A similar species is the intake gleophyllum (Gloeophyllum sepiarium). But in the fir gleophyllum, the color of the caps is more saturated (in the intake, it is light, with a yellowish tinge along the edges) and there is no pile on it. Also, in Gleophyllum fir, unlike its relative, the hymenophore plates are rarer and often torn.
