Scientists’ unexpected discoveries about cocoa

We know that cocoa with milk not only improves mood, but is also very useful. And here’s another piece of news about this drink.

It turns out that people began to drink cocoa 1 years earlier than previously thought. So, scientists thought that ancient civilizations in Central America began to drink a mixture of cocoa beans about 500 years ago. But it turned out that the drink was already known 3900 years ago. And it was first tried in South America.

This discovery was made by a group of international scientists from Canada, USA and France.

They analyzed artifacts from tombs and ceremonial bonfires, including ceramic bowls, vessels and bottles, and found evidence of cocoa consumption by the Mayo Chinchipe Indians in southeastern Ecuador.

In particular, archaeologists have identified starch grains characteristic of cocoa, traces of theobromine alkaloid, and fragments of cocoa bean DNA. Starch grains were found on about a third of the objects studied, including a charred fragment of a ceramic vessel dating back to 5450 years.

These findings made it possible to assert that the first people who tried cocoa were the inhabitants of South America.

And if, after reading this news, you wanted flavored cocoa with milk, catch the recipe!
