Literacy association … with childcare

Volunteer babysitters, yes, they exist! The Parisian NGO Humans for Women, founded in 2015, fights to defend the rights of vulnerable women (in a situation of poverty, coming from a country at war or migrants, etc.). The association wants to give them the means to become independent, in particular by providing them with literacy courses, organized every Sunday. And while the mothers are in their French lessons, their children are looked after… by volunteer babysitters. Currently, the group includes 2 children and 10 babies, for around thirty learning mothers. The lessons are given in the form of private lessons: each volunteer gives lessons to a student. When some students have the same level, the association puts them in groups of two or three. At the same time, Humans for Women organizes monthly cultural outings in Paris, to introduce students to French cultural heritage, as well as Paris and its neighborhoods. The NGO also collects clothes and hygiene products, and provides legal assistance, to help students with their administrative and legal procedures. More info on http://www.humansforwomen.org/
