Many parents start teaching their child almost from the cradle. In some ways, they are right – children make a huge leap forward in learning precisely in the first years of life. Children who grew up in a bilingual family find it easier to learn a foreign language. But there is a danger that a confusion of different vocabulary forms and concepts will turn out in the baby’s head.
And keep in mind – it is the individual lessons and constant communication with the same teacher, who was able to interest the child, that will bring the same expected result.
– Repeaters take on teaching children from the age of three. And this is quite logical, considering that most babies master oral speech only by the age of two. Of course, it’s too early to talk about grammar at this age, but if there is an opportunity to invest the maximum amount of knowledge in a child, when he absorbs information easily and with pleasure, then why not?
Question 2. What language should I choose?
We are not talking about choosing the first foreign language. English in our XNUMXst century has already become the universal language of the Universe. As practice shows, English is required almost everywhere – even as an office manager, not every company will hire you if your knowledge of Shakespeare’s language is stuck at the school level. Not to mention serious career heights.
But with the second language it is already more difficult. Linguists estimate that there are between 2500 and 7000 languages in the world, each of which is worth learning. But we, of course, are interested in the most popular ones – they will provide a competitive advantage in the labor market.
– You should not give up learning a language if it seems difficult to you. This is very subjective. Each language has its own specifics and what seems elementary to one will remain incomprehensible to another. It is best to focus on which language is most likely to be useful in the child’s future profession. But there are also general patterns. Oriental languages are gaining popularity now. Chinese threatens to outshine English in terms of number of speakers, and Japanese is the future.
Question 3. In person or over the Internet?
In order for the baby to start perceiving a foreign language, you need to communicate with him, play and give him the opportunity to draw information on his own. For example, from cartoons or entertainment programs in another language.
In language courses, lessons should be held in a very unobtrusive form – this is the only way to keep unstable children’s attention.
– Online classes can be even more effective than their offline alternatives. Students in groups are often distracted by each other and therefore do not receive knowledge to the extent that teachers and parents expect. It is even more difficult if the child is often sick: constant absences from classes threaten a serious backlog, which in large groups no one will catch up. It is much easier to solve the issue of education with the help of individual online lessons with a tutor, for example, via Skype.
