Tratamente medicale pentru preeclampsie

The only effective treatment for preeclampsia is for the woman to give birth. However, the first signs of the disease often come before the term. Treatment then consists of lowering blood pressure (antihypertensive drugs) in order to postpone childbirth as much as possible. But preeclampsia can progress very quickly and require premature delivery. Everything is done so that the delivery takes place at the best time for mother and child.

In severe preeclampsia, corticosteroizi can be used to cause high blood platelets and prevent bleeding. They also help make the baby’s lungs more mature for childbirth. Magnesium sulfate may also be prescribed, as an anticonvulsant and to increase blood flow to the uterus.

The doctor may also advise the mother to stay bedridden or limit her activities. This could save a little time and delay the birth. In the most serious cases, hospitalization, with very regular monitoring, may become necessary.

Initiating childbirth can be decided, depending on the condition of the mother, the age and health of the unborn child.

Complications, such as eclampsia or HELLP syndrome, can appear 48 hours after childbirth. Special monitoring is therefore necessary even after birth. Women with the condition should also monitor their blood pressure in the weeks following the birth of their child. This blood pressure usually returns to normal within a few weeks. During the medical consultation some time after the baby’s arrival, the blood pressure and proteinuria will obviously be checked.
